Torontonians are heading to polls this month to elect our new mayor. This is an important opportunity for ACTRA Toronto members who live in Toronto and our entire film community to vote for a candidate who supports Toronto’s screen-based industries.

Toronto’s mayor plays an important role in attracting production to the City and can have a positive influence on industry-related decisions at City Hall.

Voting in the upcoming mayoral by-election is your chance to help make Toronto a better place for every resident of our City.

As a not-for-profit, non-partisan industry consortium, FilmOntario understands the issues facing our province and City’s screen-based industry and the importance of having film-friendly municipal and provincial governments.

ACTRA Toronto’s By-Election Wishlist

ACTRA Toronto is asking mayoral candidates for firm commitments that strengthen and promote our industry, including:

  • Supporting activities of Toronto’s Film, Television and Digital Media Office;
  • Promoting Toronto as a world-class filming jurisdiction to domestic and international partners;
  • Promoting the screen-based industries to other levels of government;
  • Executing and building on existing opportunities for city-wide studio development;
  • Advancing the City’s Green initiatives for business and promoting the screen-based production industry’s efforts to become more sustainable; and
  • Collaborating with community and industry partners on training opportunities for film, television and digital media production, with a focus on diversifying the industry in front of and behind the camera.
