Hundreds of ACTRA Toronto members participate in Day of Action

While Canadian Heritage Minister Mélanie Joly was in town hosting a consultation on Canadian Content in a Digital World, ACTRA Toronto members sent a clear message to Canadian politicians at every level of government yesterday that Canadian creators must play a central role in the development of new policy .

Film and television is big business in Ontario, spending $1.5 billion on production in 2015 and supporting 32,000 fulltime equivalent jobs in a clean, green and sustainable industry.

In one “Day of Action”, ACTRA Toronto members sent 800 emails to municipal, provincial and federal representatives and trended on Twitter (#digicancon, #actra) for more than three hours yesterday, as they called on politicians of every stripe to support Canadian creators and commit to sustained investment in the development, production and distribution of original and distinctive Canadian programming.
